After months of research and testing new polymers and formulations to meet MIL-DTL-25988 Rev D, Colman Dungan, PAI Chemist realized that this specification is impossible to meet with the current Fluorosilicone polymers on the market. He emailed the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) the organization responsible for the management of this specification. He let them know his findings, and asked if they were going to change it. He never expected to receive a reply. But to his surprise he did receive one.
They had zero submissions from any company for approval to this specification as it is impossible to pass. The AFRL representative informed him that MIL-DTL-25988 Rev D is being cancelled and they will be reverting back to Rev C as the active revision through the end of 2022.
All our current Fluorosilicone compounds 20463, 20563, 20662, 20763 and 20863 will pass the Rev.C requirements. However, before the end of the year MIL-DTL-25988 is going to be replaced by AMS-R-25988 B with all the same testing requirements as MIL-DTL-25988 Rev C.
